With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
When the world went on pause due to the pandemic I was in the midst of writing and producing my debut album. My team and I were getting ready to release the debut album so the pandemic definitely changed that. Luckily I was able to go to my cottage up north and take that time to do some much needed planning and work on my craft as a musician.
How has that affected your plans for the coming year? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
As I was in the middle of releasing my debut album "From My Eyes", my team and I just had to re-think how we were going to do things. With this album we had also been planning a Canadian tour to follow it, but obviously with the pandemic that got put on pause with everything else.
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home? How are you supporting your mental health through all of this?
Through all this I've been trying really hard to stay positive and keep working at what I can. I took the pandemic lockdown as a time to work on my music and also myself. Part of being a performer is letting your audience get to know you and feeling strong in who you are so this was the perfect opportunity to take that time to work on myself. Of course some days were easier than others and it wasn't all super easy and meditative, but I can confidently say that having that time (break from the fast moving world) was so insightful for my personal growth.
As things are reopening & restrictions are lifting have you booked any new gigs? Tours? Etc? If your region is still under restriction, how are dealing with the Covid third wave?
In Ontario and more specifically Toronto things have been opening up and more people are making the choice to get vaccinated which is definitely helping the situation. I am planning a tour that would be happening in 2022 (make sure to follow me for more info on that!) so right now there is a lot of planning, rehearsals, and all the other fun stuff that comes with going on tour. My team and I have also been seeing how other artists and bands are managing Covid-19 in relation to live shows and tours, with the pandemic everything is a learning experience.
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
I really hope you're doing okay, this has been a really hard couple years for everyone in such different ways. And if you're not doing okay I hope you can use music to help you get where you need to be, take it one day at a time and don't forget to give yourself some love.
